Adam and Eve

Nothing could spoil the happiness of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. At least that's what it seemed. But there was, alas! someone who was plotting to ruin everything that God had done. It was Satan, the enemy of God, who hated all that was beautiful and good.

One day, the serpent who was the most cunning of all the creatures in the garden whispered to Eve: "Did God really say that you were not allowed to eat any of the fruits of these beautiful trees?" " “Of course not! », Replied Eve,« we can eat any fruit we want except that one tree over there. God told us not to eat it or we will die. " "It is wrong," replied the snake in a soft voice. “God knows that if you eat this fruit you will become as wise and intelligent as he is. That's why he told you not to touch it. "

Eve looked with fresh eyes at the delicious fruit that hung in clusters from the forbidden tree. What a beautiful appearance he had! She imagined its exquisite taste. Then she thought it would be wonderful to be as wise as the serpent had promised. Then, her decision made, she quickly plucks one of these tempting fruits, bit down on it and then handed it to Adam for him to taste in turn.

But instead of feeling wise and intelligent, they both found themselves miserable and ashamed. They had disobeyed the wise and loving God who was their Creator and their Friend. When evening came, they did not rush to meet God. They were ashamed of having disobeyed him. They plucked large leaves to try to cover their bodies, then hid themselves silently in the bushes.

Every other night, they had eagerly awaited God's friendly call. Now they were afraid to hear the familiar sound of his voice. They finally heard it. "Where are you Adam?" God called. With downcast eyes, they crawled out of their hiding place to meet God whom they no longer wanted to see.
